Clinique Bonus Time Kit Unboxing + Thoughts

It’s been a looooonnngggg time since my last post.  And I’m back.  Hopefully I’ll have the time to post here from time to time.

Raffle draws are not my thing.  I can only remember about less than 5 instances that I won in a raffle draw.  I even got my heart broken a few years ago during our company’s Christmas raffle draw.  I’ve been dreaming of winning an iPad air, to the point of praying for it every day, every night.  During our Christmas party, I really hoped I’d win.  But I didn’t.  I was so disappointed that I told myself I’ll never expect to win next time.

Until last June, Sample Room hosted a Clinique giveaway, where you’ll have a chance to score a very special giveaway from them—a Clinique bonus time kit, and a full sized  Clinique Even Better Essence Lotion.

Upon seeing the promo details, once again, the spirit of great expectancy became alive in me, LOL!  I really wished I’ll become the winner.  But in the end, I just said, I’ll join and won’t expect that much.  I don’t want to have my heart broken once again. Haha! :P
After a few weeks, I was tagged by Sample Room through Instagram, informing me that I won the raffle.  My heart almost jumped out of my being. LOL! I was really thrilled and overjoyed.  I even read comments from fellow raffle “joiners” that they almost died of envy because I won. Hahaha.  Sorry for that :|

Karen's Beauty Post # 12: Saladbox May 2014 Runway Ready Box: The End (I Guess)

Hi! It’s been a busy week for me.  Series of meetings, two days of ocular inspection for our upcoming shoot, tons of photos to edit—I think I need a break.  But the question is: WHEN? :P

Anyway, I almost forgot that I my last Saladbox is for delivery anytime last month.  After the Skin Food Box and Regatta Box, I was in high hopes that the May box will be as good, if not better, than these two boxes.  As I’ve commented on my Regatta Box post, this box will determine if I’ll continue my Saladbox subscription or not.

I got the May box last week and I crossed my fingers before opening the box—hoping I’ll not be disappointed.  And guess what?  I was!!!

Karen’s Beauty Post # 11: Unboxing Saladbox April 2014 Regatta Box

I was able to receive two boxes from Saladbox as part of my three month promo subscription (3 for 1000 promo).  The first box is the Skin Food Box, then the other is the Regatta Box—this is their April 2014 special edition box.

Many thoughts came into my mind as I opened the Regatta Box.  All I know is that Regatta is a casual clothing store.  I did not know that they have other product lines aside from clothes.

The box is closely associated with summer.  Very timely.  As stated in the box’s curation card, this special box contains the essential stuff that we should have with us as we enjoy the summer heat.

Karen’s Beauty Post # 10: Unboxing My First Saladbox – March 2014 Skin Food Box

I never thought I’ll try subscribing to Saladbox.  When I became aware of beauty box subscriptions, Saladbox came on top of the Google list.  I tried to check out some reviews first.  Sadly, all I saw are all rants and no raves on the products included in their boxes.  Honestly, as a subscriber, it’s not worth all the money.  And so I settled with Glamourbox and made advance subscriptions to BDJ Box.  I also started to enjoy my Sample Room VIP Membership.

But a Facebook post from Saladbox somehow changed everything.  They offered an exclusive box of Skin Food products for March 2014.  Being aware that Skin Food products are pricey, I thought this is a catch.  So I was like this:

Typed Saladbox.com.ph.
Clicked “The Box”.
Clicked “Join”.
Clicked “Subscribe” under Women’s Box.
Clicked “Subscribe” under Starter Plus.
I was about to click “Checkout”.  But I was scared.
I closed the window.

Testing @theperkyshop’s Perfect Selfie Package: Solve your #SelfieProblems!

People, especially Pinoys, love to take photos, selfies in particular.  Maybe to flaunt his outfit for today, to share what makeup/skincare products she used on her face for the day, to let his network know where he’s spending his vacation, or just to share a relevant quotable quote. LOL!  Whatever our purpose is, I believe we were able to take even just a single snapshot of ourselves for others to see.

During my school days, I’m a self professed selfie addict. I admit it!  It was crazy to think that I really got fond of myself taking pictures upon waking up, before going to sleep, or if I’m having a great time outdoors. But now, I take selfies with caution.  I must have a CONCRETE PURPOSE why I posted selfie shots.  I am aware that some people doesn’t want their social network feeds clogged with pictures of my face in different angles.. hehehe! That’s why, just wanted to remind you—hinay hinay lang when taking and posting selfies ok?

Anyway, let me share to you some problems (well they’re not really problems, maybe disadvantages or inconveniences) that you can encounter in taking selfies:

Hot Star Large Chicken: Yes, It's Large!

Last week’s work week left me heartbroken. Thanks to our very own MRT who caused me so much stress. It’s indeed true as I’ve said on my Facebook status that riding it during rush hours can really test your character.  Well, modesty aside, I think I passed…… I passed that I almost failed (and cried). :P

I commend my fellow commuters who managed to endure the shoving and pushing just to fit in the jampacked train coaches.

Anyhoo, after almost two hours of brisk walking, riding the train, and riding a jeep; I safely arrived at Blue Bay in Pasay (our favorite dating place hehe).   I was profusely sweating, my legs are aching, I have a huge shoulder bag and laptop bag with me, and my hunger is haunting me.  My husband was waiting for me and immediately we searched for a place to eat.  I wanted that moment to find a spot wherein I can forget my “repeating MRT stress syndrome”

Karen’s Beauty Post # 9: Unboxing the Glamourbox April 2014 - Perfectly Pristine Box!

I got my eyes glued on the clock last April 11.. waiting for its hands to strike 12 noon.  Upon the time I was waiting for, I immediately subscribed to Glamourbox Perfectly Pristine Box.  I was thinking that I would get products that are refreshing, ones that will help me beat the summer heat.

What made me even happier about this box is that my older sister paid the subby fee for me.  This is her birthday gift for me.  Thank you so much Ate Karis Santiago-Yumang and Kuya Romel Yumang! :D

Yesterday, our office guard handed me a heavy Glamourbox.  Looking at it, it seems like the box is "overloaded" with stuff! I became even more excited and immediately opened the package.

My Bag of Beans Experience (and some Tagaytay moment sidenotes)

My husband and I spent one of our vacant Saturdays at Tagaytay.  We went there not to stroll along and enjoy the scenery (though we wanted to do that on the side), but to catch up with our backlogs.  We have to update our photography folio and upload our latest works, then sort out and do some editing and album layouting.  The past months for us were a little bit hectic and crazy, so we grabbed this chance to catch up.

My Look--Sumkinda Ngiwi Look. LOL!  Primer:  Body Shop Matte It Primer, Foundation:  Benefit Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow, Brows:  Cover Girl Brown Liner/Snoe What's Up Brow Corrector, Mascara:  Maybelline Magnum Volum Express Waterproof Mascara, Lips:  Colour Collection Ultimate Wear Lipstick - Bellissima

We went to Starbucks, hoping that we can work in a cozy environment.  But the long queue of customers, boisterous laughter from a big group seated on a nearby table, and the warm air from the coffee shop’s aircon unit (or maybe it’s really hot that time), failed us to do so.  But nevertheless, we still proceeded to work.  Tagaytay during weekends most likely mean that we have to endure long traffic jam, and it is unlikely that we can find a quiet spot to work because people are all over the place.  Looks like the cool weather that we are looking for does not want to hang out with us.  Oh well.

I Want To Be Part of Sample Room's Bloggers Circle!

From Sample Room's FB Page
I fell in love with my Sample Room subscription since the day they gave me 100 points to be used for sampling selected beauty, health and lifestyle products.  Sample Room opened the "sleeping heart" of beauty blogging within me.  At first I thought I'm destined to write inspirational, travel and food blogs and other serious stuff.  Even in my wildest dreams, blogging about beauty products never struck my mind.  When I was single, I don't put powder on my face.  I never used lotion, baby cologne is more than enough for me.  I never even bothered to groom my brows. And I love basketball.  The last statement is just random. :P

Way back then I never find myself beautiful.  I tried joining Miss Intramurals during my sophomore year in high school, and I heard people that I'm only good in joining quiz bees, and after that I promised myself not to join such contests again.  I don't have flawless skin, I'm too skinny (but I have wider hips), and I don't have good posture.  And to top them all off, my self esteem is way, way down the drain.  I'm not beautiful.  Then I focused on my studies to excel.  At least I have one aspect that I am confident of.

Karen's Beauty Post # 8: Sample Room VIP Experience - Part 3

This post has been long overdue.  Supposedly I should've posted this last week but I was busy doing things (church, shoots, post processing pictures, and a TON of backlogs!).  Ok, so much for my explanation :) let me share to you my 4th and 5th wave of my Sample Room VIP Membership experience.

My first three batches of samples were more than enough reasons to look for more goodies at Sample Room for sampling.

My Mind In Random’s Birthday/Summer Giveaway: Belo SunExpert Products Up For Grabs!

Hello there!  Summer is here!  What are your plans for the coming summer months?  Be it at the beach or just strolling around, we should not forget to take care of our skin from the sun’s harmful rays.  You see, too much exposure from the sun can cause skin aging, wrinkles and even skin cancer (that’s what I knew).  I used to use sunblock only during my beach getaways, but now I realized that even if I’ll just go outside to go to, let’s say, work,  it’s important for us to wear sunblock for the face and body parts that are exposed to the sun as we go out.

I discovered Belo SunExpert Products, first, at Glamourbox.  Then as a VIP member at Sample Room (they are currently offering the same products for sampling), I decided to subscribe in order to get these items.  So currently I have two sets of these.  I am keeping the one set, and I’m giving away the other! (This is my birthday giveaway too!)

Karen’s Beauty Post # 6: All Firsts: Sample Room VIP Experience – Part 1

Hello!  It’s been quite a long time since my last post (Yes, 8 days is quite long for me!).  Been crazily busy over the past weeks due to accounting workloads, photoshoots and church activities.  And I’m loving it!

It was said that you should love your work and your work will love you back… I guess it’s true.  Though tired and exhausted at times, I thank God because He kept me busy and productive.  And what adds more to the happiness is that I did these things with my husband.  It's indeed true that you'll love doing things the more if you're doing it with the one that you love the most. (insert "awwwwwww" here)

Anyway, let me share to you my first experience as a Sample Room VIP member and also my Glamourbox first online shopping story.

Karen’s Journey to 140: The Beauty of Juicing

Way before juicing became a trend in the world of health, fitness and dieting, my family is already doing this, but mainly on fruits.  My husband have heard of Detoxify Bar and wanted to try it so badly that we ended up arguing—and trying it.

Detoxify Bar in Eastwood, Quezon City

You see, Php 1,350 for a day’s consumption of five bottles and two teabags is too pricey for me.  I won’t elaborate on how Zham ended up after consuming all of these, but one thing is what I wanted to tell you—we have to make our own!

Zham became a few pounds lighter and he said he really felt good.  So I was really curious, I wanted to try it out as well but I’m not that willing to shell out a fortune to try ready made juices like the one from Detoxify Bar.  So I suggested that we should buy a juicer and make our own fruit and vegan juice.

Karen’s Beauty Post # 5: I’m Now a Certified Snoe-aholic!

Last night after work, Zham and I went to Robinsons Galleria to buy a replacement for his bag.  Then I suddenly remembered that Snoe has its store at the said mall.  I really wanted to check that out after I received and tried their products through the Glamourbox Snoe Special Edition.

We finally reached the store at the third floor.  I was excited to see the other Snoe product offerings.

Let me share to you some items that I bought from them last night:

Karen’s Random Note: Enduring the MRT Stress

I did my best to log out of work by 7 PM, on the dot.  I need to go home to make up some time with my husband after a few months of being extremely busy.

And I succeeded.  Well, sort of.  I went out 7:05 PM.

From Emerald Avenue where my office is located, I walked briskly with my laptop (without the charger to lessen the load), my ever reliable, “not-that-big-but-not-that-small-either” shoulder bag, and my shawl around my shoulders, and with my flat shoes on.  After 15 minutes, I walked from there to the MRT Ortigas Station.  It felt good whenever I pass by on people walking towards EDSA.  For me it feels like I saved precious time as I walked past them.  It also felt like I am improving on my walking pace, thanks to my twice a week jog with Zham.

Anyway, as I approached the escalator, I became like…

Project Pie: Another Reason to Love Pizza

My husband and I became curious as we passed by Project Pie along Shaw Boulevard in Mandaluyong.  Its few parking slots in front were all occupied by cars and people seem to be having fun inside.  Since the pizza place was jam packed, we decided that we’ll go there some other time.

And that time came.  But at a different branch—in Bluebay Walk, EDSA Macapagal, Pasay City.  We grabbed the chance to spend our time there because we saw some vacant tables.  A friendly staff (whom I forgot the name), handed us a flyer so that we’ll get to know more about Project Pie.

Our First Speaking Engagement as a Married Couple: True Love Waits

It’s thrilling to think that Zham and I will be given a chance to speak in front of young people about our inspiring (well, many said that) and God centered love story.

Way before when I was still single, I only used to talk in front of people during photography workshops.  Zham is with me, but we were in a group.  And now, it’s really funny to think that I’ll be a guest speaker with him—as his wife.

It was KKB (Kristiyanong Kabataan Para sa Bayan) – Pasay Chapter’s annual seminar for Love, Courtship, Dating and Marriage with the theme:  True Love Waits:  Maybe Someday, focusing also on “Genuine Love Exposed”.  The event was graced by 200 plus young people from all over Pasay.  Oh, the good old days!  I thank God because I had the opportunity to serve Him during my teenage years.  It was inspiring to see that these young people are doing the same thing.

Karen’s Beauty Post # 4: Glamourbox February 2014 Unboxing (BeloSpecial Edition)

This week is filled with “package arrival moments.”  First, my second order of anti cellulite and slimming lotion arrived from an IG online shop (actually this order is for my officemates).  Then yesterday, three packages arrived:  one from Lazada Online store (my most awaited juicing machine and retractable eyeliner), one from Sampling Room (full sizes of Sappe Fibre Beauti Drink, Whisper, and Calchews), and the last, the unexpected—one from Glamourbox (I was expecting this to arrive by next week).  I got excited and hurriedly opened this first among those packages that I have received.

This month of February, Glamourbox is offering a special Belo beauty box.  They opened their subscription last February 14th, and upon notification, I immediately subscribed.

Dear Tita Paring, Thank You For The Suman :)

Image taken from http://www.ensogo.com.ph/manila/tita-paring-suman-08022012.html

Lunch on a Sunday is a perfect time for food tripping for a church goer like me, especially if you attend church in Greenhills Shopping Center.  After our morning service in Jesus Is Lord Music Museum (our exact church location), there are too many restaurants to choose from for us to spend lunch, so much choices that sometimes it takes us long to choose where to eat.  Be it at V-Mall, Promenade, or G Strip, you’ll never ran out of options.
I usually spend lunchtime with different people (friendly much?).  Sometimes, I’m with my family, my in laws, my church friends, or just with my husband.

Karen’s Sermon Notes: Are you a “1 Corinthians 13 Christian”?

Image taken from http://www.etsy.com/market/1st_corinthians_13

1 Corinthians 13

If I speak in the tongues[a] of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast,[b] but do not have love, I gain nothing.
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part,10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhoodbehind me. 12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

Karen’s Journey to 140: Post # 1: Photojog with the Husband at SM By the Bay

I used to live my teenage years and 20s between 110 to 120 lbs.  I play basketball, dance, run, and EAT A LOT.

My eating habits worsened since I started boarding and reviewing for my CPA Licensure Exam.  I don’t play basketball that much, I don’t dance anymore, I also don’t run that often, but I STILL EAT A LOT.  I munch on anything that I like to munch on while studying.  Brain food, you know.

But that didn’t stop.  I loved to eat more when I started to write food blogs and restaurant reviews.  I did this as my past time and did this to compensate for the stress that I have at work.  I used to go to places each month, which means more food to discover and explore.

That went on until now.  Last Sunday I did my weigh in.  The digits that I saw from the scale broke my heart… and I cried, literally.  I now weigh 186 lbs.

Enough with the crying.  I have to do something.

Karen's Game Post: Some Thoughts on Flappy Bird

I just learned of the game Flappy Bird because some of my Facebook friends have been uploading screenshots of their scores.  At first I just went on and scroll my feed, ignoring this kind of posts. But the screen shots from my fellow blogger Venus made me curious.

I downloaded this free game from the Apple App Store and played right away.  My first try was a fail because I don’t know how to play it.  You have to tap the screen to make the 16 bit (or is it 8 bit?) bird fly and flap its wings.  Then as you go on you will encounter those pipes above and below the screen, resembling those pipes you see on the Mario game.  You should not let the bird bump on those pipes, or else it’s Game Over.

Random Thoughts: Love God. Love Others.

Image from http://time4thinkers.com/11-love-your-neighbor-as-yourself/
Intro:  My random thoughts that you are reading right now are written as I type.  Meaning these are really in my thoughts and in my heart as of this writing.

*****

The past months were, I could say, tough.  Andaming nangyari.  I actually dreamt about it happening few years back but I ignored it.  Now, it’s happening.  Personal attacks are made against each other.  Bashing and fault finding on doctrines that were even embraced for decades.  Broken relationships because of differences in beliefs.  I don’t know.  I admit I’m not a theologian, or an expert in God’s word, but I’m striving to become a kind of Christian that God can be proud of.

I’ve made mistakes.  I knew I’ve hurt people because I talk too much.  Maybe I broke their trust on me.  God is still working on me.  I wanted the best that I can be.  I wanted to avoid doing my weaknesses.  I’m trying to be like Christ.  I’m laying down to Him my flaws and shortcomings.  I wanted God to transform me into a better person, exceedingly glorifying Him in my every thoughts, words, and deeds.

Karen’s Beauty Post # 3: I am Snoe-d! (The January 2014 Glamourbox Snoe Special Edition Box)

Because I was happy of what I got from Glamourbox Beauty SOS and Secret Santa boxes, I did not hesitate subscribing for my third box—The Snoe Special Edition box.

I checked Glamourbox’s website to check Snoe’s products.  At first I thought it’s an all make-up brand, but I learned that they have a wide selection of everything girls (and ladies) would love to have aside from makeup—be it lotions, hair care products, bath essentials, and makeup tools.

I was at the field (work) when my neighbor informed me that I’ve got a package from Glamourbox.  I became excited to go home and check what I will get.

6 Things I Missed About Friendster

Now that we are already in the Facebook age, isn’t it nice to reminisce all those things that we usually do during the Friendster era?

Along with Myspace, High 5, and Multiply; Friendster was the most widely used social networking portal way back early 2000s (I was in college then).

Missing this?
I wanted to look back to those things that I definitely missed doing with Friendster.  Here’s my list.

I’ll Eat Cupcakes Forever if They're From Psalm 16:8 :)

I’m not exaggerating.

I arrived at the office earlier than anyone else, as usual.  For someone like me who’s going to Ortigas everyday from Bacoor, Cavite; you have to wake up earlier to arrive at work on time.  In my case, I’m much earlier than my required time in.  Anyway, I don’t want to tell you about my usual morning routine.

I saw a dainty looking box at my table.  Christmas is over, but I still have a little surprise waiting for me.  Actually, the rest of my team mates have theirs on their tables as well.  I checked it out.  It came from a fellow worker.  I opened it and saw this:

Mongolian for a Night: A Taste of Mongolian Rice Bowls Eat all You Can

It was a Friday.  After A hard day's work, my husband, in-laws, and I decided to look for something to eat at SM Mall of Asia.  We're tired of fast foods, and at the same time we don't want to splurge on expensive buffet restaurants.  I remembered last Christmas, I went to Mongolian Rice Bowls (I'll call this MRB) with my church friends, so I suggested to them this place to spend our dinner.

Mongolian Rice Bowls offers a wide selection of dishes to choose from.  Aside from this, they also have an eat all you can Mongolian buffet for as low as Php 380 for dinner and Php 280 for lunch.  You could choose from rice or noodles as your base and mix it off with your favorite toppings and sauces.

Karen’s Beauty Post # 2: Unboxing my Glamourbox Beauty SOS Box (October 2013)

Yes, I know, this post is a little bit too late :P

The Glamourbox October 13 box, also known as the “Beauty SOS” box, is my first ever subscription.  And as early as now, I will say that this never made any disappointments. Read on to know why.

By the way, weird as it is, I already posted my review on the Glamourbox 2013 Secret Santa box here.

Now back to the Beauty SOS box.  I was thrilled upon receipt of the package through Xend.  Probably because you’ll never know what’s inside of it until you open it.

Jamba Juice Fruit and Yogurt Parfaits: My New Dinner Habit

I love Jamba Juice for the following reasons:  First, because of the store’s warm and cozy ambiance; second, its staff’s cheerful attitude towards its customers; and third, because I am truly sold out to its Fruit and Yogurt Parfaits (I’ll call this FYPs).

As far as I can remember, a couple of times I visited Jamba to have a serving of its famous fruit juices and smoothies.  But the rest of my visits—because of the FYPs.  I am a sucker for granolas and bananas, two of FYP’s main ingredients.  All throughout, I always buy the Berry Topper parfait, but just recently I had the chance to taste the other two flavors.
Jamba Juice Fruit and Yogurt Parfaits come in three flavors—Berry Topper, Mango Peach Topper, and Chunky Strawberry Topper, sells at Php 150 each serving.  This is what I think on each flavor:

Karen's Beauty Post # 1: Unboxing my Glamourbox Secret Santa Box (December 2013 Box)

I used to post blogs on food, travel, and anything random but BEAUTY and MAKE UP—until now.

I started to become interested in buying beauty boxes while reading some posts from the Female Network’s Girl Talk Forum.  I saw Glamourbox and became curious on what it has to offer to its subscribers.  I was able to get their Beauty SOS Beauty Box, but I wasn’t able to write a review yet.  I’ll let you know guys soon if my post is already up.

UPDATE: The post is already up! See this link

Meanwhile, let me share to you the second box that I got from Glamour Box—The Secret Santa Beauty Box.  I was happy because I was able to subscribe before the boxes run out of stock.  After a few days, it finally arrived.
