Karen’s Beauty Post # 10: Unboxing My First Saladbox – March 2014 Skin Food Box

I never thought I’ll try subscribing to Saladbox.  When I became aware of beauty box subscriptions, Saladbox came on top of the Google list.  I tried to check out some reviews first.  Sadly, all I saw are all rants and no raves on the products included in their boxes.  Honestly, as a subscriber, it’s not worth all the money.  And so I settled with Glamourbox and made advance subscriptions to BDJ Box.  I also started to enjoy my Sample Room VIP Membership.

But a Facebook post from Saladbox somehow changed everything.  They offered an exclusive box of Skin Food products for March 2014.  Being aware that Skin Food products are pricey, I thought this is a catch.  So I was like this:

Typed Saladbox.com.ph.
Clicked “The Box”.
Clicked “Join”.
Clicked “Subscribe” under Women’s Box.
Clicked “Subscribe” under Starter Plus.
I was about to click “Checkout”.  But I was scared.
I closed the window.

I just can’t!  I was scared of disappointment. You know… It’s not my thing.  So I sang, “Let it Go….”

A month passed, and Saladbox is still offering the March box.  And they announced a “3 boxes for P1000” promo.

And so I gave in. Finally.

I placed my order, deposited the subscription fee last April 23, notified Saladbox of my payment, and they acknowledged it.  Pretty fast transaction processing.  I have to wait for 3-5 business days for my box to arrive, or my money back.  I kept my fingers crossed because, again, I don’t want to be disappointed.

Days passed, and still I haven’t had an update from them.  I just can’t wait any longer.  April 28, I e-mailed them and asked when will I receive my box (it’s two actually, because the April box is already available).  They said they are about to ship my boxes.

At exactly 5 business days after I placed my payment, the boxes arrived.  Goodbye “money-back” :P.

I was quite surprised that Saladbox’s box is smaller than the other existing boxes, though I don’t know with BDJ Box because I haven’t received my first box yet.  Honestly my hopes went down somehow, but I did not totally lost it all, who knows, upon seeing the contents I’ll be happy :)

For the first box, here’s what’s inside:

L-R:  Black Pomegranate Toner, Emulsion, Cream, Voluming Serum

Black Pomegranate Gift Set

Toner – This toner is infused with ellagic acid which is a very effective antioxidant. Full size Php 1,450

Emulsion – This very lightweight emulsion effectively smoothens and illuminates skin.  Full size Php 1,450

Voluming Serum – Smooth out wrinkles and hydrate your skin with this wonder Serum from Skin Food’s newest line.  Full size Php 1,835

Cream – Transform rough skin into a glowing, supple texture after every use of this skin-plumping cream.  Full size Php 1,675

What I’ve got:  Gift box valued at around Php 500:  Toner – 15mL sample size, Emulsion – 15mL sample size, Cream – 5g sample size, Serum – 10mL sample size

My thoughts:  A box within a box. Very cute.  This is indeed an ideal gift for… myself. LOL!  I loved the packaging.  I’m not totally familiar with Emulsion and Voluming Serum products.  Also, I don’t know how to use these four!  I had to research from the net on how to use these.  And also, it will be better if Saladbox can also include the full sample size details (in mL or g) and the size of the sample included so that I can have an estimate on the value of the contents of the box.  I researched the sample sizes from the net, because I wanted to have a decent estimate of the value of what I’ve paid for.

Anyway, let’s proceed to the next product.

Black Sugar Perfect First Serum:  L-R:  Serum sample, gift bag, cotton pack
Black Sugar Perfect First Serum + Cotton – This set will exfoliate, brighten, smooth wrinkles and hydrate skin in one single step – how cool is that?  Full size Php 1,600

What I’ve got:  10mL sample with cotton pack and paper gift bag, valued at around Php 277.40

My thoughts:  Hmmm… I’ve got nothing to say.  This is totally new to me.  I’ll try this out soon.

Watery Berry Gift Set:  L-R: Toner, Gift box, Emulsion
Watery Berry Gift Set

Toner – Infused with Arctic berries, this dewy moisture toner will turn skin into a soft, glowing texture after every use.  Arctic berries deliver a myriad of nutrients that provides ample hydration. Full size Php 1,140

Emulsion – A hydrating emulsion that is deeply moisturizing, and yet feels almost invisible on your skin.  Full size Php 1,140

What I’ve got:  Gift box valued at around Php 92.47:  Toner – 5mL sample, Emulsion – 5mL sample

My thoughts:  Another cutesy box within a box.  These two promised to give me a highly hydrated, moisturized skin.  Let’s see if the sample size will be enough for that.

Total estimated value of the box:  Php 869.87 for Php 333 subscription.  Not bad?  I don’t know...  But I ended up looking for more, wishing that there’s even one full sized product left.  But they’re all sample sizes.  I loved the packaging, but it’s kind of “bitin”.  But as compared to their past boxes, I think this is a “comeback” box.

  1. Hi Karen! Are you still subscribed to Saladbox? :) The weird thing is, I signed up on March 30, '16, got my confirmation on April 6,'16 but still haven't received any box 'til now (May 11, '16). I'm just checking if other people are having the same issue as I am. :(

    1. Hi DJ Nina, sorry for the suuuupppeeerr late reply. I've stopped subscribing to Saladbox after my Runway Ready box because of disappointment on its contents. AFAIK, delay in shipment of the boxes has been an issue with Saladbox based on the rants i've read online. Have you received your box already?
