Last week’s work week left me heartbroken. Thanks to our
very own MRT who caused me so much stress. It’s indeed true as I’ve said on my
Facebook status that riding it during rush hours can really test your
character. Well, modesty aside, I think
I passed…… I passed that I almost failed (and cried). :P
I commend my fellow
commuters who managed to endure the shoving and pushing just to fit in the
jampacked train coaches.
Anyhoo, after almost two hours of brisk walking, riding the train,
and riding a jeep; I safely arrived at Blue Bay in Pasay (our favorite dating
place hehe). I was profusely sweating,
my legs are aching, I have a huge shoulder bag and laptop bag with me, and my
hunger is haunting me. My husband was
waiting for me and immediately we searched for a place to eat. I wanted that moment to find a spot wherein I
can forget my “repeating MRT stress syndrome”.
Outside Hot Star |
Inside the restaurant |
Then we saw “Hot Star Large Fried Chicken”—Taiwan’s #1
chicken shop. Since we’re on a budget,
we looked at the menu and its price range.
Quite affordable, I must say. Our
curiosity pushed us inside the restaurant.
Taken from www.hotstar.com.ph |
Hot Star offers a range of breaded chicken and fish meals,
as well as pasta (spaghetti), chicken popcorn, fish and chicken sandwiches,
sides (choose from mushroom soup, French fries, mashed potatoes, crunchy food
salad, chicken skin), desserts (ice crush drinks, soft serve ice cream), soda,
iced tea and lemonade.
Their breaded chicken and fish offerings priced at a range of Php
110-125. The chicken can be enjoyed
in three choices—original, crispy and BBQ, and comes with self served unlimited
gravy. If you want to add plain rice and
drinks, just add Php 35.
HS3 - BBQ Large Fried Chicken (Spicy) |
HS2 - Crispy Large Fried Chicken (Original sauce) |
HS4 - Large Crispy Fish |
Hot Star Lemonades |
Self served unlimited gravy (for dine in only) |
I ordered HS2 (Crispy Large Fried Chicken), and Zham chose
HS3 (BBQ Large Fried Chicken with Blue Lemonade). His parents shared over an order of HS4
(Large Crispy Fish with Iced Gulaman and Lemonade).
Counter area - sorry for the underexposed shot :P |
Claiming area |
You have to order at the counter, they’ll give you a cue
number, then you’ll have to wait until your number is flashed on their
electronic screen (similar to an electronic basketball timer).
All I can say is that—they really mean LARGE. For me, an order is enough for sharing (2
persons). I checked on the breading
before I took a bite. I could say it is
breaded just right—not “over breaded”. I
remembered few days ago I ordered calamares on a certain chicken
restaurant. At first sight you’ll think
you got more that you’ve paid, but I removed the breading and all I saw is not
a ring slice of squid, but a pinch. I
was eating just the breading all along!
I was really disappointed.
I feared that will happen again to me at Hot Star—but thankfully,
I was wrong. I tried removing the
breading from the chicken and still, Hot Star meant LARGE Chicken.
The gravy tasted just right.
It complemented the chicken/fish.
But it’s too hot that it almost killed my taste buds. Hehehe. I really must learn to cool it down a bit
before consuming.
We can't take this anymore--the serving is more than enough for us! |
I kept on saying that the orders came in large
servings. I was able to eat only a half
of it. Same with Zham. We decided to take it home. We asked for gravy but we’re quite
disappointed because for take out orders, we need to pay Php 10 (or Php 15, I forgot) for the
gravy. Kuripot noh? Hahaha! Well, not really, I just thought that moment
that we have a drum load of Heinz Catsup waiting for us at home. :P
After Project Pie, Hot Star Large Chicken became another
reason for us to call Blue Bay Pasay our favorite dining hangout. Every peso spent is worth it! :)
